Afridi Slams Indian Media | Calls It a ‘Cartoon Network’
Amid the ongoing India-Pakistan exchange of fire, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has questioned the journalism of the Indian media. He said that in the current situation, the Indian media has become a cartoon network instead of a credible newsroom.
Shahid Afridi made this comment in a post on social media X on Friday evening. The former Pakistan captain's comment came at a time when the Indian and Pakistani T20 tournaments IPL and PSL were stopped on the same day.
On April 22, India launched a missile attack on Pakistan, blaming it for the gun attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. A day later, drone attacks also occurred in various parts of Pakistan. In this, a building was damaged by a drone strike at the Rawalpindi Stadium complex. The Peshawar-Karachi match in the PSL was scheduled to be held at the Rawalpindi Stadium on that day.
The Pakistan Cricket Board decided to postpone the match after the drone attack in the stadium area. This morning, it was announced that no PSL match will be held in Pakistan this season. The remaining eight matches will be held in the United Arab Emirates. Although another press release was given at night, the PSL was postponed.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings-Delhi Capitals IPL match in Dharamsala last night was stopped midway due to security reasons. At that time, India said that the Pakistani military had attacked India's western border.
This afternoon, the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) announced that the ongoing IPL season has been postponed for a week. The Indian board has also taken the initiative to send foreign players back to their respective countries as soon as possible.
After the suspension of play in two franchise tournaments (before the official suspension of the PSL), Afridi raised the issue in an X post and wrote, 'Sports is above borders, religion and politics. Today it is under attack - PSL has been moved to Dubai, IPL has been suspended and Indian drone attack outside Rawalpindi stadium. Cricket once brought us together. Today it is bloody due to the impact of conflict.’
Amid the war between the two countries, Shahid Afridi , who has played more than 500 matches for Pakistan, alleged that the Indian media has moved away from journalism. ‘Instead of upholding journalistic values like honesty and impartiality, the Indian media has become a caricature, a cartoon network instead of a credible newsroom.’
Shahid Afridi wrote, hoping that the situation will be resolved and the game will return to the field, ‘The stumps will stand again. Not just for the game, but for peace.’
Currently, Shahid Afridi X and Instagram accounts are blocked in India. Last week, the Times of India reported that the social media accounts of several Pakistani cricketers have been blocked in India, including Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, as well as Shahid Afridi. When accessing their accounts from India, ‘This account is currently not accessible in India. This is due to content restrictions in compliance with a legal request.’
