Tendulkar Wanted the Pataudi Name to Be in the England-India Series

Sachin Tendulkar, India’s cricketing legend, has voiced his support for reinstating the Pataudi name in the prestigious England-India Test series. Tendulkar highlighted the Pataudi family’s immense contribution to both Indian and English cricket, stating that honoring this legacy would inspire future generations.

“The Pataudi name represents pride, courage, and history. It deserves its place in this iconic rivalry,” said Tendulkar during a recent interview.

The England-India Test series will start in five days. From now on, the two teams will play the Test series not to win the Pataudi Trophy, but the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The new trophy was supposed to be unveiled yesterday with a grand ceremony. But after the recent plane crash in Ahmedabad, India, the cricket boards of the two countries, ECB and BCCI, decided to postpone the ceremony.

The criticism did not subside after the change in the name of the series trophy. The trophy was named after Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, who played Tests for both England and India. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had said that they had decided to keep the Pataudi Trophy after informing Pataudi's family. However, many could not accept this decision, as they felt that Pataudi had been disrespected.

Even embarrassed Sachin Tendulkar requested the cricket boards of both countries to keep something in Pataudi's name in the series. Later, current ICC chairman and former BCCI secretary Jay Shah took the initiative in this regard. With his mediation, it was decided to keep something in Pataudi's name in this bilateral series.

An ECB official confirmed the matter, 'Yes, the name Pataudi will be associated with the series. The matter is certain.' It is believed that the series-winning captain will be given a commemorative medal in the name of former Indian captain Late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, son of Iftekhar Ali Pataudi.
