Victorious England captain, Eoin Morgan, is absolutely pleased. Thanks the fans for coming out in large numbers to support. On not meeting India in the semi-final, Morgan deflects the question away, stating that England were confident after their group stage win over India. On Chris Woakes being the unheralded hero, Eoin says that he is very happy for him and calls Woakes as the best bowler for England in the last 4 years. Praises him and Archer for bowling exceptionally well in Powerplay 1. Tells that Roy and Bairstow are in the form of their lives and is happy that both play their natural games. On being asked about his age during the 1992 World Cup, Eoin says that he was 6 around then and continued watching the highlights on television. Cannot wait for the final on Sunday. Australian skipper, Aaron Finch, is disappointed with the loss and admits that his team was totally outplayed with both bat and ball. On the balls doing so much at the start, Finch agrees that Australia were surprised with the development but praises the England quicks for hitting the mark. Looks at the World Cup campaign as plenty of positives given where Australia were when they came to England last year. Is proud of the way his team fought. On his fielding plans when Roy was going berserk, Aaron says that he took a stab at everything but it was one of those days when nothing went his way. On Australia losing to South Africa and missing out on a semi-final in Manchester, Finch does not want to cite any excuse. Says that in a World Cup, one needs to beat each and every team. CHRIS WOAKES IS THE MAN OF THE MATCH! He smiles and says that it was an incredible performance from the entire team, starting with the ball and then the guys thumped down the runs. Admits there were nerves but he is happy for the way they played and produced the goods. On Warner hitting his first ball for a boundary, Woakes smiles and replies that he was nervous and got his length wrong. Feels the key distinction was the start with the bat for the two teams. Mentions that they found the correct length and kept the pressure on. Adds that they got to a flier which is important in these kinds of chases. Adds that they could have bowled more full at Ruler's (against Australia) but that's a long time back and they had the energy after beating India and New Zealand. On being asked how old was he when England last played in the final of an ODI World Cup, Woakes laughs and replies that he was three years old. He says that considering that they were the favorites, it was important for them to first reach the semis and it's a satisfying feeling to beat a team like Australia and go the final. England beat New Zealand by 119 runs
In reply, Powerplay 1 set the tone for the chase. 50/0 in 10 overs essentially deflated Australia and then Roy just climbed onto the Aussie bowling attack. The opening pair walloped 124 and from there on, the Aussies just couldn't bob back. 85 from Roy, in 65 balls, just slaughtered the chase. The Kangaroos got him out fortunately, adjudged caught behind when he did not hit it, but that did not help much. Morgan and Root saw their team through safely. A clinical performance from the home side. Did not get upset after losing the toss and instead, reduced Australia to ashes at 14/3. Carey, Smith and Starc then huffed and puffed to push the Aussies to 223 but it was always going to be 20 runs below par. Chris Woakes set the tone upfront with 3 wickets while Adil Rashid took care in the center overs, picking up 3 scalps England vs Afghanistan, Cricket World Cup 2019: live score...
